The Parkesburg Library has a special challenge and a request for the community.
If you frequent the library you may have seen the stone wall on the front of the building became detached this past winter and was in danger of falling down. It also exposed the interior walls to damage from the weather.
Two members of the board of directors have removed the portion that was in danger of collapsing, but we’ve had to engage the services of a professional stone mason to reconstruct the wall.
The work that needs to be done will cost the library $2,500. That’s the bad news. The good news is we have found a donor who is willing to match contributions from the public dollar-for-dollar.
So, for every dollar the community chips in, we actually will receive $2.00. The library is asking people to either drop a few dollars in the can at the take-out desk or to mail a check to the library with a donation.
If you choose to mail a donation please designate somewhere on the check, the envelope or a note inside that the donation is to go towards the stone wall. This is so we know the intent of the donation.
We are trying to get $1,250 in donations between now and October so we can get the wall back up before the cold weather returns. Our building is getting old and needing repairs, but it is the busiest public building in the Borough and a valuable resource for local families and citizens.
Please help us complete this important repair with a donation today.
