Octorara Board Debates Security Measures, Funding

What do you do if you’re an Octorara School Board member and the state hands your district $40,000 in a no-strings-attached grant to increase security on the district’s Highland Road campus knowing your campus sits less than 10 minutes away from one of the most horriffic school shootings in the nation’s history.

You debate whether or not to accept the money of course.

And that’s just what Octorara’s board did Monday evening according to a summary of the meeting written by Debbie Wygent and published on LancasterOnline yesterday.

For two-and-a-half-hours the board listened to concerned parents, looked at every angle of the issue and staked out their own positions before finally scheduling a vote on accepting the state grant at the Board’s April work session on April 14th.
