Effie Dale, 88, a longtime resident of Downingtown, passed away on Wednesday, June 19, 2013 at Exton Senior Living, where she had resided for the past three years.

Born in Atglen, she was the daughter of the late Elmer and Dora Smoker Stoltzfus. She graduated from West Fallowfield Vocational High School in 1943.

Mrs. Dale was proud of her service to our country. She enlisted in the U.S. Navy during World War II and served in Naval Hospitals in Philadelphia, Bronx, NY and Bethesda, MD. After the war, she worked in the Post Office in Atglen and retired as Post Master in 1988.

After her retirement, Effie lived in Downingtown. She was a member of the American Legion Post 865 in Christiana and was an avid Phillies fan.

She was preceded in death by her husband, W. Fred Dale, Sr. and son, Ronald Craig Dale of Atglen.

She is survived by her sisters, Dorothy Bard of Lewes, DE and Lena Windle of Flagstaff, AZ; son, W. Fred Dale, Jr. of Downingtown; and nieces and nephews throughout the country.

Services will be held privately for the family. Interment will be in Manor Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Cochranville.
