Thinking Parkesburg’s families needed more childcare options earlier this year, Betty Jacks found empty First Avenue space and opened Creative Minds Childcare Learning Center.
The center is a dream-come-true for Jacks. “Opening a center is something I’ve always wanted to do,” Jacks said recently.
Realizing her dream was a long time in coming. For over 20 years the Sadsbury native took care of children in her home. To Jacks, caring for children mean more than just providing meals, changing the occasional diaper or making sure afternoon naps are taken.
Rather, Jack’s mission is to look after and nurture each child’s mental, emotional, social and physical development.
Nurturing the whole child involves a healthy heaping of love. But more than love, Jacks also leverages the experience of each of her children in her care to reach out and teach each other.
“Everyone helps,” said Jacks. “Kids learn best when other children help them.”
Jacks other guiding principle is the belief that children learn best through play. So each lesson, whether its on math or learning simple ABC’s, Jack’s tries to create a game or learning activity to go along with the lesson.
Mrs. Jacks also sprinkles in fun-filled field trips and excursions to compliment learning. Last year her center took her charges on field trips to the Coatesville airport, the Philadelphia Zoo, area farms and even Dutch Wonderland outside of Lancaster.
