Former Octorara High School Principal Hank Detering made it onto the front page of the Daily Local News this week with a story about a whitewater rafting trip down the Grand Canyon River for wounded active duty Marines he is organizing.

According to the Daily Local News,

The trip won’t take place until late next summer, because the U.S. Park Service limits the number of river travelers allowed in the Grand Canyon each year, and because “river days” are carefully allotted to both private boaters and commercial outfitters.

The 10-day trip for 24 members of the U.S. Marine Corps Wounded Warrior Regiment will cost about $85,000 including transportation, lodging and the trip down the river, about half of which has already been raised.
