According to conservative columnist David Frum in his recently published ebook Why Romney Lost,
“In the quarter century since 1988, there have been six presidential elections. Only once – once! – did the Republican candidate win a majority of the popular vote, and then by the miserable margin of 50.73 percent.
By contrast, of the six elections from 1968 through 1988, Republicans won five. Their average share of the vote in all six, including the unsuccessful election of 1976, was 52.5 percent.”
I didn’t know that.
Sounds like Frum is right and the GOP is on its way to becoming the party of yesterday.
In a world full of tomorrows, and no way yet invented to retrieve our yesterdays, that is really bad news for conservatives.
