Evening Event “Kicks Off” Parkesburg Community Day 2016

About thirty promoters and potential sponsors came out Wednesday evening to the Parkesburg VFW banquet room to enjoy wine and cheese and to hear the “kick off’ for the 2016 version of Community Day in Parkesburg which will be held on Saturday, August 13th in the borough’s Minch Park.

Chair of the Parkesburg Special events Committee, Jack Assetto addressed the attendees which included representatives from several area businesses, Parkesburg Borough, State Representative Harry Lewis’ office and a few members of the area media corps.

The event will open a bit later than in the previous years, at 1 p.m. The afternoon events will include music by a local area band and this year, the committee is hoping to develop an artisan’s tent featuring notable and not so notable artists from the area in an endeavor to attract a broader base of people from outside the Parkesburg area.  A catered dinner is planned for later in the afternoon, in the park, prepared by local caterer Vernon Yost.  Tickets for this dinner will be presold beginning June 1st.  The dinner will last into the evening which will be followed by the famous West Chester Swing Kings, an eighteen piece pop orchestra who will play classic listening and dance music until 9 P.M. and to cap off the day, a gala fireworks display makes its return this year.

As in the past, the Fountain Inn 5K race will begin at 9 A.M. but this year, it will be sponsored in conjunction with Victory Beer Company and will feature a greater array of prizes.  Also during the day, activities will include contests for the kids and a veteran’s display commemorating World War II and The Vietnam Conflict.

Plans are in the works to include a German Beer Garden featuring Victory Brewing and several local wineries.  The committee is hoping to have Galena Brass Band return to provide music for this area.

Once again this year the vintage car show will be featured on the grounds (with prizes).

The event approaching its third year continues to support five local non profit organizations:  The Parkesburg Free Library; The Keystone Valley Fire Department; The Parkesburg Community Churches outreach; The Octorara Food Cupboard and The Parkesburg Point.  To date, proceeds from the event donated to these local organizations have exceeded $21,000.00

Various levels of sponsorship are available and the event is offering vendors a 10% discount if they sign up and pay the vendor fee by June 1st.

The Parkesburg Special Events, Inc. is a registered 501 c (3) non-profit corporations and y9ur contributions are tax deductible.
