Calendar Alert: National African American Read-in – Update

LancasterOnline reporter Debbie Wygent posted an article on the Lancaster news site yesterday announcing an upcoming event celebrating African American literature at Octorara High School in February.

Her article begins:

In his 1966 poem, “Those Winter Sundays,” Robert Hayden, America’s first Poet Laureate, reminds readers of unspoken love.

Literature lovers in the Octorara School District community will speak aloud words of love and the many conditions of humanity when they celebrate Black History Month during the first annual National African American Read-in on Tuesday, Feb. 18.

The nationwide event celebrating African American literature is sponsored by the National Council of Teachers of English Black Caucus and the International Reading Association.

Octorara High School English teacher Jennifer Watson is organizing the local event, set for 6 to 8 p.m. in the high school library.
