“People Helping People” is how  their members tout it.  According to Mrs. Edith Ritter, Secretary for the past twenty three years, this group has been around since 1901 and is a very casual organization.  Interested members and administrators meet once a year and currently, the membership roster is close to four hundred.  There are no annual dues for members however, when three members of the group pass away, an assessment post card is mailed requesting $2.00 for each of the three departed members.  The members’ families are mailed a check for $1,000.00 to help with expenses.  You do not need to be a resident of Atglen to join the club however; you do need to be 65 or younger to join.  For an application to membership, call Barbara at 610-593-5809.

Author’s note:  I have lived in this area for many years and this is the first I have heard of such an organization.  I understand that Christiana also had a similar club, years go.  What a nice way to help your neighbor.
