Catching Up On Cierra Runge

Following a strong performance in the Women’s 100M Freestyle at the USA Swimming US Open Championships in Irvine, CA, Cierra Runge, a lifelong resident of Cochranville, PA and a member of Octorara Area High School Class of 2014 has been named to represent Team USA at the FINA Junior World Championships, August 26-31, in Dubai, UAE.

Prior to the meet USA Swimming listed the top eligible swimmers for Junior Worlds in each of the qualifying events after the World Championship Trials in Indianapolis the first week of July. Swimmers are eligible for ranking and Junior World Championship Consideration if they were born from 1996-1999.

Cierra is one of the junior swimming world’s top college recruits. According to Diane Runge, the swimmer’s mother, Cierra received over 20 full scholarship offers during the first 24 hours of the recruiting open season which started on July 1st. According to her mother, Cierra subsequently narrowed her choices to the University of California Berkeley, the University of Wisconsin, the University of Georgia and the University of Southern California.

Her mother says Cierra will be making official college visits to each of these campuses the first weeks of September before making a verbal commitment later this winter.
